About us

Sciemus was founded in 2002. Our aim was to create a series of world class risk analysis models across a variety of industry sectors for better quantification of risk for insurance and finance. We take an engineering based approach to building models for sectors that are characterised by complexity and continual technological change – both key drivers of many industry sectors.

Our models

Our models are developed in partnership with QinetiQ – the former research laboratories of the Ministry of Defence. It is this partnership that has allowed us to create truly unique models driven by proprietary intelligence and world class mathematical capability.

We develop models for sectors where historically, there has been an over reliance on experiential judgment, flawed assumption and incomplete analysis. Similarly, many of the areas we operate in cannot be assessed using actuarial analysis since quite simply, what has happened in the past is no guide to what might happen in the future.

Following a two year development cycle, each model undergoes extensive testing before being applied in a commercial context. Our first model was created to understand satellite risk. This has been independently evaluated and its application saw the creation of the largest satellite insurer in the world.

Satellite model

Our satellite model has had a transformational effect on the treatment of pricing within insurance and the insight to the quantification of risk has provided greater certainty for decision making within the financial markets. We aim to replicate the success of our satellite initiative in an ongoing development cycle that will see the completion of up to fifteen models in the next four years. Over the next twelve months we will deliver models for calculating power, property and cyber risk.
