Research & Development Partnership

Sciemus has formed a partnership with Research & Development company QinetiQ to utilise their experience as industry leaders in areas like power generation and satellite operation, along with their expertise in science and engineering. QinetiQ have been a vital partner in the design and construction of our technology. 

QinetiQ

QinetiQ is a leading international defence and security technology company who develop technology-based solutions and products for major government organisations, such as the UK MOD and the US DoD, and for commercial customers around the world. Formerly the UK’s Defence Evaluation Research Agency (DERA), QinetiQ have built up significant intellectual capital and expertise in a wide range of sectors. By partnering with QinetiQ, Sciemus has leveraged on QinetiQ’s heritage in reliability engineering, modelling and risk assessment to create the best risk assessment tools available.

As well as being a core R&D partner, QinetiQ have also played a crucial role in providing the data for our models to run on. QinetiQ began collecting data on satellites and space launches while still part of the Ministry of Defence. When approached by Sciemus in 2002, QinetiQ had operational and event data on nearly all commercial satellites launched from around the world. This data has been used to build a historical environment for the Sciemus SpaceRAT (Space Risks Analysis Tool) to run on, with a record of all major commercial satallites events and failures, current in-orbit satellites can be analysed with greater accuracy and consistency.
