Wind Risk Analysis Tool

Sciemus have developed WindRAT in collaboration with QinetiQ to add rigorous analytical methods to evaluate wind turbine operation. Building on the success of the SpaceRAT and PowerRAT, Sciemus’ latest market offering advances the modelling capabilities to a new level, accounting for the increased complexity of wind farm configuration and failure modes as well as factoring in such issues as maintenance and environmental issues, which vary from farm to farm.

WindRAT achieves this by considering the heritage and legacy of the different manufacturers, models and components of the vast array of different operational wind turbines worldwide, through use of a comprehensive event database that also considers failures on electrical distribution infrastructure such as transmission cables, substations and collector strings. The database is constantly updated with new data from a wide range of sources, or inputted from the user.

WindRAT will deliver a standard method of quantifying risks across wind farms, allowing for intelligent pricing of insurance products for IPP’s and a step change in the understanding of risk in combined power portfolios in conjunction with PowerRAT.
