Rick joined Sciemus Cyber Limited in 2015 as Chief Executive Officer. He has over 25 years experience in the insurance industry and 16 years’ experience in cyber insurance, having built technology and cyber insurance practices in both Sydney and London. Prior to Sciemus, Rick established one of the first London cyber insurance practices at ACE Global Markets in 2000 and latterly, the global cyber practice at AEGIS in 2012.
Sciemus is a Lloyd’s Managing General Agent and is a globally recognised leader in cyber insurance. Sciemus is a leading provider of risk analytics and modelling to the insurance sector, providing risk consulting services to a number of sectors including In-Orbit Satellites and Launch, Thermal Power, Renewable Energy, Cyber Risk and Mining.
Richard joined Sciemus towards the end of 2014 as Chief Financial Officer. Richard is very much a hands on CFO with a commercial edge, and he has responsibility for all financial areas within Sciemus and brings over 10 years of accounting experience from various companies and different industries. Prior to joining Sciemus he has worked in a number of roles as a Finance Director/Financial Controller within recruitment, media and regulatory Health Professions companies. Richard has Bsc Hons from Nottingham University and is a qualified chartered management account CIMA.
Dirk joined Sciemus in 2015 to develop models for assessing insurance risk. Prior to that he completed a research internship at the South African Reserve Bank, working with micro-simulation models for scarce data problems. He has also worked on data modelling and visualisation problems within the private sector and academia.
Dirk holds B.Sc. and B.Sc. Hons. degrees in actuarial science from the University of the Free State in South Africa. He is a Rhodes scholar and holds a PhD in Bayesian algorithmic design from the University of Oxford.
Stefan joined Sciemus in January 2015 to lead the Power Generation business. Prior to joining, Stefan was Managing Director of STF Energy Ltd, an engineering company providing expertise and consultancy to the conventional and nuclear power industry. His main role for STF, since starting there in 2010, was to lead commercial and financial negotiations and technical risk mitigation supporting both OEMs and large asset owners. Stefan also utilised his key expertise to carry out risk assessment surveys for major insurance companies on operational power plants and construction risks.
Stefan's experience in the power industry dates back to 1999 as on-site Performance Engineer for TUV Energy Service before successfully leading QinetiQs teams in the gas turbine, oil & gas and batteries business as Programme Director. Stefan graduated as a MSc in mechanical engineering in Munich before he started his career in the UK.
James joined Sciemus in 2009 and was part of the team that delivered the WindRAT and SolarRAT models to market. James specialises in the modelling of renewable energy projects and the delivery of insight to insurers and investors in power generation portfolios in Europe and the USA.
Prior to joining Sciemus, James worked within UK Defence before spending 10 years in academia obtaining a BSc Hons in Business Enterprise and an MSc in Knowledge Management, as well as completing an Engineering Doctorate focussing on the application of Knowledge Management Frameworks to interrogate Wind Turbine SCADA systems while working at Sciemus.
Daniel leads cybersecurity for Sciemus Cyber, joining Sciemus in 2015 from AEGIS London, where he was one of the first cybersecurity professionals to enter the global insurance market to develop and provide risk transfer solutions for the most complex cyber risks. Prior to this Daniel worked for BAE Systems’ cybersecurity practice and the UK’s Ministry of Defence – providing technical and risk management advisory services to secure Critical National Infrastructure clients and Defence and Intelligence platforms from advanced cyber-attacks.
Daniel holds an M.Sc. with Distinction in Information Security from Royal Holloway, University of London; a First class B.Sc. in Computer Science from Cardiff University; and numerous industry certifications – including Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).
Neil is an English trained lawyer with extensive knowledge of space insurance both as a broker and underwriter in the London Market. He is also experienced in complex financial transactions and project finance for space projects. Neil holds a Master’s Degree in Law, Legal Practice Course qualification and Diplomas in Business Strategy and Business Management. He acted as advisor to the UK Government in relation to reform of the Outer Space Act 1986 and has advised the Government of Bermuda and European Space Agency on space insurance matters. Neil is a member of the Advisory Board of the Satellite Finance Network and a Faculty Member and lecturer at the London Institute of Space Policy and Law.
